What’s the first thing you do when you find yourself in a deep hole? The answer is simple and obvious. Stop digging!
That’s what we have going on now. The elected empty suits in Washington are aware of how deep a hole this country is in, but they refuse to stop digging. Why are we talking about raising the debt ceiling again? We don’t have the money. We are as broke as we can get.
Do we have anyone in congress (I refuse to capitalize congress until we get responsible people in congress) who looks at what we are spending and why? When we try to spend more than we have someone has to ask why are we providing a million dollars to put pool tables in Assisted Living Communities. No I can’t identify any specific Assisted Living Community that received pool tables, but we are spending like drunken sailors and much of what we spend shouldn’t be spent. No one qualifies who we send checks to and why. We are not making an attempt to stay within our means.
When a family knows we have $1200 dollars a month to live on, the family stops going out to dinner and starts to buy hot dogs, beans, and macaroni and cheese. The family with limited resources does not send money to support another family across town because they need help.
The responsible family controls what they spend and lives within their means. As a government we are not trying to do that. That process will be painful. Many people will feel the pain. Many politicians will not get the votes they used to get because they didn’t get money back home in the form of government spending.
Politicians are not motivated by doing the right thing for the right reasons, they’re motivated by the opportunity to keep getting reelected. As voters we allow these empty suits to keep spending what they want to spend. We keep voting for the same abuse of the public trust. They dug a very deep hole and they aren’t smart enough to stop digging.
Stop voting for any elected empty suit who spends and spends like a drunken sailor. We must vote for people who say NO, STOP spending. We have to feel the pain and stop the spending. Much of what’s misspent is waste and can be easily cut, but some of what must be cut will be painful. It must happen, they longer we delay the more pain we will have to endure.
The men and women we already elected have been digging for years. They dug a big hole with serious consequences. They must stop digging. They have to show us they know the digging must stop and that they are committed to stopping it.
When it comes time to vote, vote for someone who knows when enough is enough. The hole is deep enough we can stop digging now.
