Could that be all that it really is? Some of our senior public servants are just dazed and confused? Economists will tell you the money is spent quickly, it injects demand into the economy, and is job-creating. It creates jobs faster than almost any other initiative you can name. So it has a double benefit: it helps those who have lost their jobs but it also is a job creator. And for those two reasons at least it should be passed.”

To extend jobless benefits again, to those who cannot find work is a band aid on the problem. They have already received benefits for a period of time and haven’t been able to find a job. It will help them buy groceries and it might add a dollar or two to the mortgage check, and it’s better for the family to receive it than not to receive it. Some income beats no income, but how long does it go on? Should the unemployed get paid for being unemployed forever? At some point the helping hand has to stop. The helping hand is also a crutch. Many of the jobs that have been lost are not coming back. Some of the industries that have been hurt will have far fewer people who used to work in them working in that industry again.

Hard choices will have to be made. Life changes will have to be made. Some were used to having a Rome and Paris vacation once or twice a year, now they will begin to look for a weekend of miniature golf for recreation. Honest work is respectable for anyone, however the bruised egos that go with the loss of status and reduction of income will have to be endured. The sooner the process starts the better for everyone. Extending the benefits to prolong the inevitable only puts the country deeper in debt and farther away from a resolution.

An unemployment check is not a stimulus. The family was buying groceries and paying their bills when the job was intact. The unemployment check assists the family and keeps them from starvation and homelessness. There is NO extra disposable income to inject into the economy. There is no stimulus here, there is only a partial payment to keep the family intact for a little while longer. A regular paycheck from a job is what’s needed and that’s the stimulus that we need. More jobs, more paycheck, and more economic stability.

The concept that extended unemployment benefits could possibly be a job creator is so out of touch with reality that is needs to be discussed. A government hand out, and that’s all that unemployment benefits are, cannot possibly create any job. The government hand out depletes the public piggy bank and provides a cushion for the unemployed that may prevent them from taking less income than they had before. It will provide emergency funds to the family, but it will not create a new job. Do those in office think that public assistance creates wealth, or induces someone to take risks with a new business? Granted a few will use the temporary income of unemployment benefits to try to create a business of their own, but they are few and far between. Most unemployed attempt to replace the job they had before especially the income, they do not try to create any kind of a new job for themselves or for others.

Unemployment benefits never created a job, individuals create small business that create jobs. People take risks with money they have earned and saved over time to create jobs. Tax cuts and tax credits help individuals create jobs. Success is a condition that occurs when someone takes risks and works hard. Jobs are created and profits are earned. Some of the same elected empty suits who feel that unemployment benefits create jobs also feel the need to punish success and confiscate the profits from the successful and put those rewards into the public piggy bank to be misspent by the same clueless public servants.

Let’s put an end to the dazed and confused in public service.
